The other day I had the opportunity to fly up to Sydney for a workshop featuring Alan Jones, whose work with cogeneration and district heating in the city of Woking in the U.K. is held up held up as one the
Best Practices for C40 Cities. He is now working for the
London Climate Change Agency working on the same issues. He is a fairly brilliant man. He said that the obstacles that we face moving forward are not technical. They are people with vested interest and regulations. That has been my observations in my work so far.
Today, Thomas Friedman touches on this subject and the leadership neccesary to get of out of predicament. Forgive me for quoting Friedman yet again. I just happen to think he is on point.
"If only we had a Congress and president who, instead of chasing crazy
schemes like offshore drilling and releasing oil from our strategic reserve,
just sat down with Boone and Shai and asked one question: “What laws do we
need
to enact to foster 1,000 more like you?” Then just do it, and get out
of the
way."
