Possible Alzheimer's breakthrough

This has absolutely nothing to do with the environment, but I saw this article on the Drudge Report today that details how trials for a pill known as Rember in the U.K. are showing that it is twice as effective as current treatments when treating dementia. According to the study, a daily dose will keep the disease from progressing by as much as 81 per cent. Patients with the brain disorder had no significant decline in their mental function over a 19-month period. It might ready for prescription by 2012.

This is important to me because my "Grand Mom" was diagnosed with an advanced form of dementia a few years ago. I'm not sure what is worse, losing a loved one because through immediate death or losing them to Alzheimer's. I'm sure it will be to late for her, but hopefully it will be viable (as well as other options) to help others and prevent my parents, friends or myself from contracting this horrendous disease.

I also hope it is ready in time to save one of my favorite TV characters Denny Crane from Mad Cow.
