Brissy!

So the only time in has rained in Brisbane in weeks is the day I'm in town. Since it is three hours north by airplane from Melbourne, it is normall much warmer too, yet it was not to be this weekend.

So after our meetings on Friday I made it out the hostel. I had a shared room of four with a guys from Belfast and Germany and a girl from Melbourne. We all made nice and made it out at the local bar.

The next day I made it out to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. As you can tell, it was a little wet outside but as you can see from the pictures it turned out to be a pretty good time. I discovered that when you take a picture with a koala, two things happen. One: you get a really cool keepsake that proves you interacted with one of the world's rarest animals. Two: You smell like a koala for the rest of the day.

After that I went to the field so I could feed some roos. As you can see they can get quite pushy. They start swarming you and when the move slowly with the distinctive gait, it is almost disturbing. On the contrary, they were quite friendly, or just really hungry. There was an emu that was causing trouble that you can see in the pictures. The sanctuary has areas for the cubs, kindergarten, actives and then there is the retirement home.

I saw dingos, crocodiles and a kookaburra. The tasmanian devil is my next goal.
Since it was raining I made my way to the Queensland Museums. The best exhibit was about the history of rugby in Australia. After that I went to the modern art museum and have become quite interested in a Melbourne born artist named Sydney Nolan. I didn't care for all his work, but some of it is very good.

As the day ended I walked through the city's botanical gardens and walked the river back to the hostel. I ended my night at an irish pub for dinner and drinks with my roomate and watched Australia absolutely crush France in a rugby match. The match was actually in Brisbane. Had I known beforehand I would have gotten tickets. Oh well. The beer made me feel better.

Those are awesome pictures. . .I was convinced I'd get to the bottom of the blog and find out that a kangaroo kicked you in the kidneys.

Hope everything else is going well. I'm in Vienna for the weekend - I'm not sure if you've been here but you would love it - very environmentally friendly. I took pictures of windmills for you.
