Need some sunshine

It has simply been dreary down here. I know it is winter, but the sun never seems to shine.

I've been meaning to post pictures from the weekend but the Internet at my house has been incredibly slow lately so I haven't had a chance just yet. I took a trip down to the Great Ocean Road on the southern coast. Even though it was overcast, most of the pictures turned out okay. Stay tuned. I'll give you more detail when I get the pictures up.

During my trip I made friends with the tour guide who became quite talkative after he figured out that I was American. He told me all about his life and his past work in public service down here, in particular, his work in education. He told me that the U.S. subsidizes Australian Universities, essentially making it free for students down here. He said that sometimes they are even paid. He mentioned Andrew Carnegie as a key component to the equation. Now I'm sure there is more to it than what he said, but if it were true, as a recent college graduate from the States, I will be more than miffed.

He also stated that we do the same for prescription drugs and that the most expensive one is about $30. Most are about $8. Gee, wouldn't it be nice if our government could do the same for its own citizens. I'm going to dig a little deeper to see if any of his statements are true. If anyone has heard anything similar let me know.
